Last week, on our Photography Facebook page we posted what you can do with bananas that are spotted and looking a bit blemished. We highlighted that you can save the bananas and instead of tossing them into the trash, you can use them to make lovely recipes found here or type Banana on the search bar at the top left corner of the blog. Check it out here.
We found that you can get a great deal of blemished bananas for about 0.99c at our local store, thanks to a tip from our friend Rebecca.
Today, I want to inspire you to use up those strawberries, blueberries, kiwi or other fruit that you find hiding in the back corner of your refrigerator at the end of the week. Not saying that you can’t use fresh strawberries or blueberries. Just saying that you can avoid wasting your berries if they look and feel a bit mushy, soft or looking oh not so fresh.
You can get creative and make different type of smoothies or fruit drinks. You can blend whatever fruit you like and add whatever ingredients you like for taste. Read up on the history of smoothies.
My base is always the fruit and then I add yogurt and milk.
This shake is made from:
- 1/2 cup strawberries
- 1/4 cup blueberries
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 2 tsp almond extract
Add Ice if you like the slushy cold variety.
Blend until smooth and pour into a glass and enjoy!
To store your smoothie, you could re-use a glass jar like this one. Your smoothie will store for almost a week! This is a Grape Jelly jam jar that I like because of it’s size and the beautiful blue top.
