Battle of the Brands

Nutritious Peanuts.

I love peanuts. They are nutty and full of flavour. I like the kind that have no sugar or salt added. Just the pure taste of peanut. When we were young, my parents bought raw peanuts. Yes raw… and then we fried them in hot oil and enjoyed. So you can imagine my excitement when I discovered this peanut bag at the State Fair. It’s from Valley View Pecan Company
The label on the bag:

Hot and Spicy Peanuts.

Ingredients: peanuts, vegetable oil, salt and spices.

Real simple. Took me back to the good ol’ times. I could not resist. I bought them on the spot.

Now compare this with the heavy weight branded and well known,

Planters Dry Roasted Peanuts.

Ingredients: Peanuts, sea salt, sugar, cornstarch, monosodium glutamate, gelatin, dried yeast, corn syrup solids, paprika, onion and garlic powders, spices, natural flavor.

Whew! I ran out of breath just saying that.

So which do you think I’m eating now…. the great Planter’s brand or my local brand of peanuts.. you guess……

Great BBQ! only in Texas baby!

123Now,  if ever you go to Texas and in particular Fort Worth, TX,  make sure to check out any Riscky’s Restaurant. We had been to the downtown Fort Worth location and this time we decided to visit the Stockyard location, Riscky’s Steakhouse. When we got there, we could not believe our eyes. It was about 12:00 noon and there were tons and tons of people;hanging out on the terrace, eating, laughing and having a good ol’ time.
We went in and were told that it was a 25 minute wait for a table. “Did that mean that the place was THAT good?,” I wondered. Anyway, as we were passing time checking out the menu we discovered that we needed to cross over the railway tracks to get the famed Buffalo Burger. This was but a few steps across the way to Trail Boss Burgers, another  one of the Riscky’s restaurants. We agreed to sit outside and were seated immediately. I ordered the four piece catfish (they have never ending catfish) and hush puppies while my hubby had the buffalo burger, fries with a side of coleslaw. Just in case you don’t believe me , look at this delicious food. All for under $25.00! What a deal!

This was like the best catfish I have ever eaten. Fresh and soft, spicy and delectable. Mmhhh mmhhh. I ate real slowly, enjoyedevery morsel and just loved it. What a way to end an afternoon, with a great bite to eat and simply the most scrumplicous find. You need to check it out!
